What is Sandtray and How is it Used at Mystic Bee Sanctuary?

Sandtray is a technique which can be used to facilitate healing in adults, adolescents, and children, allowing them to express their thoughts and feelings when words alone are not enough. In addition to its therapeutic use, sandtray can be a tool for:

Personal Growth, Self-Discovery and the Development of Creativity.

Here at Mystic Bee Sanctuary it is used with ADULTS to Acquire a Snapshot of One’s Inner World in the Here & Now, as a Tool to Jump Start Creativity, as a Group Tool for Sharing on Topics to Gain Insights Through Non-Verbal Vocabularies, & lastly, sandtray can be used for Private Group Gatherings for Celebrations of Life, whether it be Birthdays, Bridal Showers, Baby Showers, Pre-Wedding or Post-Wedding Gifts for Couples, Anniversaries of Special Occasions, and Celebrations of Life / Memorial Tributes of Loved Ones, & ‘I am Free!’ Divorce Parties. It is also a great gift to share between Girlfriends/Guy Friends, Mother/Daughters & Sons, Father/Daughters & Sons, & Generations of a Family. Sometimes it is supportive to come together to just be with one another & that is occasion enough. Sandtray is a Unique Way to Celebrate ALL OF LIFE.

There are verbal & non-verbal vocabularies that act as resources of expression and using sandtray allows access to both of these vocabularies.

The sandtray office is equipped with specially proportioned sandtrays with varied colored sand, waterproof blue interiors, and a large collection of miniatures, including human figures, fantasy and folklore figures, animals, sea life, buildings, objects from nature & spirituality/religion, vehicles, and others. The miniatures represent all of the elements of life, from the good & the bad, the beautiful & the ugly, to the comforting, the frightening, the happy and the sad. The use of the sandtray provides an environment in which you alone or in a group are invited to create a world in the tray using the sand and miniatures.

Creativity is not a requirement. There is no right or wrong way to build a world in the sand. Some people use only sand or sand and water, though most include miniature objects in creating their worlds. After you have finished building, you can share about the world, what the process of choosing objects & building was like, what things represent, or even sometimes just sit and witness it, experiencing a cathartic release of energy. We discuss the ways in which what has been experienced in the sand relates to your life. On occasion, the experiences are purely cathartic & the entire time is spent on building, leaving no time to share on it. After every experience, you are welcome to take photos of your sandtray for you to continue to explore your sandtray on your own. All experiences are kept confidential.

Again, one might compare the world created in the sandtray to a SNAPSHOT or PHOTOGRAPH of One’s Inner World in the HERE & NOW.

Make an appointment for your 90-minute Individual / 2-hour Couple / 2-hour Group Sandtray Experience / or 4-hour Mini Retreat! More than 1 sandtray may be used depending on type of sandtray experience &

participants will be guided, step-by-step, through this unique experience!
