A Dog's Gratitude List

November is gratitude month. A time to ‘paws’ and take an inventory of what we have to ‘bee’ grateful for. To mix things up, we thought we'd ask Smudge the dog what he's grateful for this year. Here are his answers, in ‘ruff’ translation from barks, growls, and peanut butter-y slurps.

1. Peanut butter bones

Smudge loves peanut butter. (Jiff, creamy, to be exact in case you're thinking of a thoughtful gift for the holidays.) The better part of his afternoons are spent trying to get every last sugary, nutty morsel.

2. His poop being scooped

In case you’re reading this on your lunch break, we’ll spare you the bee-tails. Let’s face it, the guy has it made. It’s a wonder what lacking opposable thumbs can do for you.

3. The dump

Smudge loves going on trips to the dump. Could it be the odiferous smells that his wiggling nose eagerly inhales? The stray cats he gets to eyeball? The ride in the truck with his dad? He claims it’s really a combination of all three.

4. His friends at HPM building supply

Smudge’s dad is a carpenter, and frequents HPM in Kona for work supplies. Smudge has been tagging along on these errands since he was a puppy, and is known to staff and regular customers. It feels good when people know your name.

5. TV

Smudge enjoys a variety of programs and movies. He enjoys watching dogs shows, animated films with strong animal leads, the cooking channel, and when no ones home, MMA pay per view specials. (Selvy’s been wondering what all those charges were on the cable bill.)

Smudge thanks you for reading his gratitude list. It’s the little things in life. What are you grateful for in 2018? Smudge wants to know!
